USPages.net FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q. What is the difference between website building and website hosting?

Website designing/building is the effort to design the layout of your website, then constructing the computer files needed to produce the desired look and effects. A website is typically constructed mainly from HTML files for text, and will also normally have GIF or JPG files for graphics. Other file types may also be used. Once the website files are developed, one may view them at the computer on which they are stored through a web browser (typically Internet Explorer or Netscape). The website is not accessible (i.e., viewable) by anyone else on the Internet, though, until the website files have been "hosted" on a computer server that is directly connected to the Internet. This requires that the files be transferred, or "uploaded" to the Internet server.

In summary, USPages.net will design and build your website, then host it for you. Alternatively, if you have already built your website, but not yet hosted it, we can provide the hosting. Or, if your website is already be hosted by some other website hosting service, we can work with you to get your website transferred to USPages.net. Transferring a website is a very simple process that is done without interrupting the availability of your existing website. Please see the FAQs question describing the steps to transfer a website.
