USPages.net FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
|
Q. I already have a website. What do I need to do to transfer hosting to
USPages.net?
Transferring the hosting of your website to USPages.net is straight-forward. Just fill
out and submit the applicable sections of the To Order form and we'll begin the transfer
process.
A summary of the process follows:
You supply us (email, floppy, etc) with the files for the
website you are transferring to USPages.net.
We load your files on the USPages.net server and notify that
you can test your USPages.net-hosted website.
Once you are satisfied that your website is working OK, we
submit a domain name transfer request to InterNIC.
Once the domain name transfer is completed by InterNIC
(typically within a couple of days), customers accessing your
website name are automatically routed to the USPages.net server.
You then cancel your former website hosting arrangement.
Viewers accessing your website will not even realize that the
hosting has switched. Your website remains entirely accessible during
the transition. If you do not already have a copy of the files
used to construct your website, there are several approaches for
obtaining them. One relatively simple way is to just request them
from the party who constructed them. After all, it is your
website. If for some reason this is not timely or cooperation is
not forthcoming, then you can copy them relatively simply using
the "File - Save As" pulldown selection within either
Netscape of Internet Explorer. All .gifs, .jpgs and other embedded
files must also be saved. If you are going to use this technique,
you might want to consider Version 5.0 of Internet Explorer, which
has a "Webpage, Complete" option within the "File -
Save As" command. This will automatically copy and save
all files used to build a web page with one single save
command.
Alternatively, you may have USPages.net perform the file
copy and save. In order for USPages.net to do this, however, you
will need to supply suitable evidence that you are the
rightful owner of the material to be copied, and that you give
permission for USPages.net to perform a file copy of your website
for subsequent loading on a USPages.net server.
